If you are bored writing the CV, the reader will probably feel the same about reading it.
Instead, get up, get some fresh ideas, do some research, find a CV template that makes you excited, adapt your CV and now start applying for your dream job.
When someone says to me ‘I think this generic CV will do’, there is usually one of three reasons why they say that.
Either, they don’t know how competitive the job market actually is; or
They don’t really want the job and therefore they don’t want to put the time in; or
They are scared of failure. It is easier to explain to friends and family why you didn’t get an interview if you only spent an hour on it anyway.
You can’t write a CV in a day
One day will not give you sufficient time to ‘dig out’ from your memory all your appropriate activities. It takes time to think of relevant, interesting and fitting examples of experience and skills from all aspects of your life.
Remember you don’t need to write a chronological CV.
This is particularly relevant if you are changing or switching the focus of your career. An employer will not be interested in a list of previous jobs that appear to have no relevance to the job applied for. Much better to compose a skills based CV highlighting your relevant skills.
Everyone who is capable of writing a mediocre CV is more than capable of writing a WOW CV.
Having helped literally hundreds of people, I have never been disappointed to see what a little bit of extra time, thought and determination can do to the quality of a CV.
I can assess the quality of a CV in 10 seconds therefore so too can an employer. That’s all it takes for an employer to decide to accept or reject a CV. If you are going to write one. Write one properly.
